How Public Sector Legal Teams Are Embracing Digital Transformation
As one of LLG's long-standing corporate partners, Iken was proud to take part in the LLG Spring Conference 2025, held this year in our home city of Bristol. This gave us the unique opportunity to contribute not just at the conference itself, but before it even began.
On Thursday 5th June, we welcomed clients, colleagues and co-exhibitors to a relaxed pre-conference Meet & Greet at The Bristol Hotel, followed by a walkover to VWV’s drinks reception and a scenic cruise. These informal gatherings offered space for honest conversation and meaningful connection – the kind that helps build long-term relationships across the local government legal community.
“It’s often in those informal moments — before and after the main event — where lasting relationships are built and nurtured.”

Supporting Legal Talent at Every Stage
At Iken, we understand the importance of developing talent from within while bringing in diverse perspectives. We were inspired by Reading Council’s honest and hopeful story of launching a Pupillage Programme to grow their own barrister pipeline in local government – a bold step that reflects the kind of long-term thinking we value.
One of our greatest honours each year is to co-present the Junior Lawyer of the Year Award, and this year was no exception. Huge congratulations to Charlotte Smith of North West Leicestershire District Council, who impressed the judges with her leadership, initiative, and dedication to inspiring future legal professionals.
Designing for the Future – The Iken Workshop
We were also delighted to host a hands-on workshop led by Mark Heyster (Product Designer at Iken). Attendees were challenged to design their own legal services website, incorporating emerging technologies like large language models and image recognition.
After a crash course in UX and team support from the Iken team, the results were outstanding. One group focused on an internal support hub, while the other developed a concept for a customer-facing self-help site. Both demonstrated a clear understanding of user needs, with ambitious ideas delivered to an incredibly high standard in a short timeframe.
It was exciting to see such enthusiasm for innovation within legal services, and a real pleasure to see attendees applying product thinking to public service challenges.
"One of the great insights from a group related to the delivery of their service, and how service can be thought of as the tools which provide experience to their clients to assist the service provided by their staff"

Final Thoughts
We left the conference enthused by the conversations, inspired by the talent on show, and proud to be part of such a committed and collaborative community.
A huge thank you to the LLG team for another fantastic event – and to everyone who joined us across both days.
